Using Picture Books to Facilitate Student-Centered Discourse Around Difficult Subjects
Seems that we are in a place in history that many intense things are happening. While many try to shield children from these difficult subjects, young children still receive messages and information about the world around them in this information age. It is part of our job to create a safe space for our students to explore and participate in age-appropriate discourse to help them understand their world. Picture books can serve as a gateway and/or launch pad to support students as navigate difficult topics, keeping the exploration child-centered.
