Effective Strategies to Enhance Culturally Responsive Teaching
Culturally responsive teaching is an approach that empowers students intellectually, socially, emotionally, and politically by using cultural referents to impart knowledge, skills, and attitudes. This presentation covers several competencies that are necessary for educators to make their learning environments more culturally responsive and inclusive. These include understanding students and their linguistic and cultural backgrounds, recognizing personal biases and redressing biases in the system, practicing culturally relevant pedagogy, engaging in culturally responsive teaching, diversifying curriculum, and employing equitable grading.
