Stronger Together: Building Authentic Home School Partnerships
Most educators understand that engaging families is an important component of successful teaching; many of these same educators feel underprepared to effectively engage with families in support of student success. School and district family engagement efforts have historically been focused outward at educating parents to support their students, while foregoing building the collective capacity of educators to forge authentic partnerships with families. Founded on the concepts of authentic partnership, social justice leadership, democratic decision making, and relational trust, this session will engage educators in a reflection of current praxis, along with an analysis of future engagement goals. Through this exercise, educators will be empowered to create action plans, with concrete strategies using existing tools, to forge authentic partnerships with the families they serve. The core question we will explore is: "How do we engage all families?"
